London, Jan 18, 2023 (AFP) - Blackpool manager Michael Appleton was sacked on Wednesday after just seven months in charge of the struggling Championship club.

Appleton was appointed in June 2022 for a second spell with Blackpool after previously managing them between 2012 and 2013.

But the 47-year-old was dismissed following a dismal run that reached 10 league games without a victory.

Appleton's final game in charge was a 2-0 defeat against Watford at the weekend that left Blackpool second bottom of the table.

"The club would like to thank Michael and David for their efforts during their time at Bloomfield Road and wish them all the best for the future," a Blackpool statement said.

"The club hope to be able to announce a new head coach in the coming days."
