Champions League holders Liverpool have beaten Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in a bid to secure the services of highly touted record breaker Harvey Elliott, sources told ESPN UK's Melissa Reddy.

Elliott - the youngest player to ever make a Premier League appearance when he debuted for Fulham against Wolves in May 2019 aged 16 years, 30 days - can't pen first-team terms with Liverpool until he turns 17 in April 2020. The talented winger also became Fulham's youngest-ever player when he appeared in a League Cup clash versus Millwall in September 2018 as a 15-year-old.

His junior agreement with the Cottagers lapsed in June, though the Championship returnees will receive an undisclosed fee from Liverpool as mandated by FA rules.

Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig had all considered pursuing England Under-17 international Elliott, according to Reddy, as had Manchester City and Chelsea.

Should Liverpool sign Elliott, he would represent the side's second significant summer signing made with an eye toward the future; the Reds edged out a slew of suitors for 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg earlier in the transfer window.
