Newcastle United have come up short in their latest bid to sign James Maddison from Leicester City.

Leicester knocked back Newcastle's second bid for Maddison - worth £45 million, plus £5 million in add-ons, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg. The club is standing firm on its £60-million valuation for the midfielder, Steinberg adds.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is understood to be a big fan of Maddison, who scored 18 goals during his fourth season at Leicester in 2021-22.

Maddison, who joined Leicester from Norwich City in 2018, still has two years left on the contract extension he signed in 2020.

Leicester City have placed a similar price tag on Harvey Barnes, who's also been linked with a move to the Magpies, according to Steinberg.

Additionally, Leicester are also expected to receive offers for Arsenal-linked Youri Tielemans and Wesley Fofana, who's reportedly being targeted by Chelsea.
