Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy will remain in custody after being denied bail Monday.

The French international's trial is set for Jan. 24. He's charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

It's the third time Mendy's bail application has been denied since he was taken into custody on Aug. 26.

The rape charges relate to an alleged incident at Mendy's home in October 2020 and another occurrence in August 2021. The sexual assault charge stems from an alleged incident in January 2021.

Police arrested and charged a second man with rape in relation to the Mendy investigation. He's since been released on bail.

Mendy joined Manchester City from AS Monaco in 2017 for a reported £52-million fee.
