Report: Pochettino may be open to Spurs return after PSG 'headache'
Mauricio Pochettino may consider a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur after a difficult few months as Paris Saint-Germain's manager, The Independent's Miguel Delaney reports.
Some within Spurs reportedly suggest Pochettino is worth pursuing, and chairman Daniel Levy is apparently keen to hire someone exciting after such a disappointing campaign. Tottenham settled for seventh place in the Premier League after firing Jose Mourinho in April.
Though Pochettino's under contract with PSG until June 2022, the 49-year-old has found the club to be "more of a headache to manage than expected," according to Delaney. Pochettino won the Coupe de France before conceding the Ligue 1 title Sunday to Lille.
It's unclear if Pochettino is experiencing the same issues as his predecessor, Thomas Tuchel. The German often disagreed with PSG sporting director Leonardo over player recruitment.
Pochettino's potential return would apparently have no effect on Harry Kane's future. The 27-year-old striker is reportedly desperate to leave Tottenham this summer.
Spurs fired Pochettino in November 2019 after a spell of poor performances left the club in 14th place. Despite going five years without silverware, the Argentine molded Spurs into a perennial contender, leading them to second place in the Premier League in 2016-17 and third on two occasions. Pochettino also guided the north London side to the Champions League final in June 2019.
