Sergio Aguero's absence from Manchester City's lineup is expected to be extended after the Argentine star confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

He was ruled out for up to 10 days on Jan. 12 after coming into close contact with someone who contracted the virus. Aguero was expected to be available for upcoming matches against Cheltenham and West Bromwich Albion.

But now, the 32-year-old's self-isolation will likely continue into at least next week.

News of his continued absence will come as a massive blow for a City side in the thick of the Premier League title race.

Manager Pep Guardiola told reporters Wednesday that he wants Aguero back "as soon as possible."

Aguero hasn't played since Jan. 3. He's been limited to just nine appearances in all competitions this term due to various injuries.
