The Premier League uncovered 16 cases of COVID-19 from 3,115 tests administered to players and club staff between Jan. 11 and Jan. 17.

It's a significant decrease from the previous count of 36 the league announced for the testing period running from Jan. 4 to Jan. 10, and it's the lowest figure since Dec. 20.

There have been six match postponements due to the outbreaks during the 2020-21 top-flight campaign. Virus-hit Aston Villa have only played 15 games in the current term - four fewer than West Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers - and will face Manchester City on Wednesday after just a few days' training following a period of isolation for the first team.

"All clubs have been hit in some way," Villa manager Dean Smith said Monday. "Manchester City have had a few players who've had it, I think Sergio Aguero will miss the game as he's in isolation, so all clubs are having to adapt, and we're no different.

"The players have an awful lot of belief from what they've done already and in what they can do in this league this season. We're looking forward to the game."
