Aston Villa's upcoming match against Everton has been postponed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at the Midlands club.

The Premier League granted a request to reschedule the match, which was due to be played Sunday at Villa Park.

It's the second fixture Villa have postponed because of a "significant" outbreak at the club. Nine players and five staff members tested positive for COVID-19 last week, leading the Premier League to call off Wednesday's previously scheduled tilt between Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

The game against Everton was already pushed back a day to accomodate for the original postponement.

The Toffees find themselves on the end of a scheduling change for the second time in three weeks. A Dec. 28 fixture against Manchester City was postponed hours before kickoff because of an outbreak within Pep Guardiola's ranks.

Everton expressed "regret" over the decision to rearrange the "most important date in our calendar."

Despite reporting a large number of positive tests last week, Villa managed to field a team against Liverpool in last Friday's FA Cup third-round tie. Villa lost 4-1, with the vast majority of their players coming from their youth teams.

The Premier League discovered 36 new cases of COVID-19 over the last week of testing.
