Tottenham Hotspur's match against Aston Villa, previously scheduled for Wednesday at Villa Park, has been postponed due to a significant COVID-19 outbreak among Villa's players and staff.

Spurs will now face Fulham on Wednesday, fulfilling a fixture postponed on Dec. 30 due to several positive tests at Fulham's facilities.

To accommodate the changes, Fulham's game against Chelsea - which was set for Friday - will now kick off on Saturday. Everton's tilt at Villa will also go a day later on Sunday.

"With the health of players and staff the priority, the league continues to work with Aston Villa on measures to ensure their league season resumes safely and at the earliest opportunity," the Premier League said in a statement.

Villa asked the league to postpone their contest against Tottenham after reporting a "large" number of COVID-19 cases last week. Despite closing their training ground, Villa decided to go ahead with Friday's FA Cup match against Liverpool, albeit with a team largely comprised of youth players. Villa lost 4-1.

Villa manager Dean Smith and the majority of his first-team squad are self-isolating, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone.

Spurs, meanwhile, find themselves at the mercy of the Premier League's schedule makers for the second time in three weeks.

Mourinho blasted the league for its "unprofessional" handling of Spurs' match against Fulham. The fixture was called off just three hours before kickoff on Dec. 30, leaving first-team players and staff in the lurch at a local hotel.

"Match at 6 p.m. We still don't know if we play. Best league in the world," Mourinho wrote on Instagram.

The Premier League reported a season-high 40 positive cases in the week between Dec. 28 and Jan. 3.
