Sam Allardyce is returning to the Premier League for another fight for survival from relegation.

The former England and West Ham United boss has signed an 18-month contract to become West Bromwich Albion's new manager, the Premier League club announced.

Allardyce will replace Slaven Bilic, who was sacked Wednesday.

West Brom, who sit second bottom of the Premier League, believe Allardyce is the most capable candidate to steer the club away from relegation thanks to his wealth of experience.

"In Sam, we have a man who has a proven Premier League pedigree with a track record of improving every club he has managed," West Brom sporting and technical director Luke Dowling said.

"We believe, and, more importantly, Sam believes we have a group of players that have the quality needed to give the club its best chance of Premier League survival."

Allardyce had been out of work since leaving Everton in May 2018. The 66-year-old has managed seven Premier League teams and successfully avoided relegation since his debut in the top flight with Bolton Wanderers in the 2001-02 season.

Despite securing an impressive point against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, West Brom opted to move on from Bilic after winning just one of their 13 Premier League matches this season.

Bilic joined the Baggies 18 months ago. He oversaw the club's efforts last season to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
