The Premier League announced eight new positive COVID-19 results Monday after 1,530 players and staff were tested between Nov. 16-22.

That figure represents a decrease from the previous round of testing, where 16 cases were detected from 1,207 checks from Nov. 9-15 - the highest number of positive cases in a week since the league began testing in mid-May.

Players and staff who return a positive test are obligated to self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

The Premier League's statement comes the same day U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the current lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic is scheduled to end Dec. 2.

Johnson says up to 4,000 spectators will be allowed to attend some outdoor sporting events in low-risk areas after the government-enforced lockdown ends.

England's top tier continues to play behind closed doors after initial hopes that fans could return by Oct. 3. Those were put on hold when the U.K. government unveiled the three-tier lockdown protocol.
