Report: Manchester United consider another loan move for Henderson
Manchester United could send Dean Henderson out on loan once again in the January transfer window and will delay any decision regarding fellow goalkeeper Sergio Romero until the Englishman's immediate future is sorted, Rob Dawson of ESPN reports.
England manager Gareth Southgate told the 23-year-old that he needs to procure more playing time if he hopes to displace error-prone No. 1 Jordan Pickford heading into next summer's European Championship, Dawson adds.
With David De Gea firmly established as the first-choice shot-stopper at Old Trafford, another loan move is Henderson's most obvious path to the starting job for the national team.
Romero, meanwhile, is eager to leave the club after being omitted from both the Premier League and Champions League squads in the wake of Henderson's return following his successful spell at Sheffield United. But the Argentine international's future seems directly tethered to that of his younger peer.
Should Henderson, who has started three matches this season, depart on a temporary basis, Romero would likely stay at the club through the end of the campaign. The 33-year-old's contract expires in June, but United have the option to trigger a one-year extension.
Amid a hectic and congested season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to retain at least one of the two netminders as cover for De Gea, particularly since the other option between the sticks, 37-year-old Lee Grant, has made just two appearances for the Red Devils in over two years.
