Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo has earned a new three-year contract after leading the club to consecutive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League.

"Nuno really is the special one to Wolves. He's also my teacher in football,” executive chairman Jeff Shi said in a statement Sunday. "He's brought us a clear identity, and all the work we have done to build our first team over the last three years started from the identity created in Nuno's head."

The 46-year-old transformed Wolves over the last three years, lifting them into the Premier League by winning the Championship in 2018, and solidifying their position in the top flight. He recruited some of the club's mainstays, including Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez, and Diogo Jota, and led it back to Europe last year for the first time in 39 years.

Nuno improved Wolves in all departments during a mammoth 2019-20 campaign. Playing 59 matches in 383 days, the team reached the Europa League quarterfinals while picking up more points in the Premier League (59) than it managed the previous season (57).

Wolves return to action Monday against Sheffield United.
