Klopp intends to leave Liverpool when contract ends in 2024

Jurgen Klopp intends to relinquish his role as Liverpool manager when his contract expires in 2024.

The German bench boss has led the Reds to Champions League and long-awaited Premier League glory since arriving at Anfield in 2016. Klopp signed a new contract in December, but the 53-year-old said he eventually wants to return home.

"Four years in Liverpool (and then) do nothing for a year," Klopp told SWR Sport, as translated by ESPN, when asked about his plans.

"But in five years, the world can look very different," he added.

After suffering defeats in the League Cup, Europa League, and Champions League finals earlier in his tenure, Klopp eventually turned Liverpool into arguably Europe's most dominant side, with the Reds winning several trophies in recent seasons. That includes this year's Premier League crown, ending the club's 30-year wait for a top-flight English title.

Klopp previously spent seven years as a manager at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. He'll log his longest stint at a single club if he sees out his contract in England.

With three matches left on their schedule, Liverpool remain on course to surpass the 100-point mark and set the record for most points in a single Premier League campaign.
