Tottenham are aiming to secure their second signing of the January transfer window.

Spurs have begun the process of finding a replacement for Christian Eriksen by focusing their attention on winger Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven, according to David Hytner and Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian.

Eriksen is expected to join Inter for €20m (£16.7m) before the winter signing period ends, bringing an end to months of speculation over the Dane's future in north London.

It's understood a successful bid for the 22-year-old, who is capable of being deployed on the left or as a No. 10, could cost Tottenham as much as £30 million. Leicester City are also believed to be keeping tabs on the Dutch international.

Bergwijn was omitted from PSV's starting team for Sunday's match against FC Twente while his agent is allegedly in London to discuss his client's future.

PSV caretaker coach Ernest Faber revealed Bergwijn asked to be left off the matchday squad in an apparent attempt to engineer a move away from the Eredivisie club.

"It's his choice," Faber said. "We only need players who are 100% focused on PSV."

Bergwijn began his youth career at Ajax before moving to PSV. After establishing himself as an important contributor during the 2017-18 campaign, Bergwijn attracted plenty of attention last year in his breakout season when he recorded 15 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.

His performances were good enough to earn himself a spot on the national team; Bergwijn is expected to be a member of the Dutch squad that will compete at the European Championship this summer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are also reportedly in the market for a new striker capable of replacing Harry Kane while the injured English star recovers.

Earlier this month, Tottenham announced the arrival of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal with a reported £56M option to buy.
