Guardiola unsure whether Ederson will be fit to face Liverpool

Ederson appears to be in a race against time to face Premier League title challengers Liverpool on Sunday.

The Manchester City goalkeeper was replaced by Claudio Bravo during halftime of Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Atalanta with a muscular issue, and manager Pep Guardiola is waiting to hear news on the severity of the injury.

"I don't know right now. It was a muscular problem; it was not big but he did not feel comfortable in the last minutes of the first half," Guardiola replied post-match when asked if Ederson would be available for the Anfield trip, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.

"But honestly, at the moment, I don't know (how serious it is)."

Memories of Bravo's difficult first season at Manchester City were stirred by the Chilean's unconvincing performance off the bench. As usual, Bravo was willing to contribute to outfield play, but he was caught out when he felled Josip Ilicic after streaking off his line.

Bravo was sent off for denying an obvious scoring opportunity. After a considerable delay, while City and the officials got themselves organized, Kyle Walker was called off the bench and immediately posted between the sticks. The right-back made one save as City clung on for a draw.

Bravo will serve his red-card suspension in UEFA tournaments, so he is still in contention to start the much-anticipated wrangle on Merseyside if Ederson doesn't prove his fitness. City's third-choice goalkeeper is either veteran Scott Carson or youngster Daniel Grimshaw.
