The Metropolitan Police announced Tuesday charges laid against two men following the attempted robbery of Arsenal's Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac in July.

Police released a statement saying that Ashley Smith, 30, of north London, and Jordan Northover, 26, of West Yorkshire, have been charged following the incident in Platt's Lane, Hampstead, which saw Kolasinac fend off the pair of knife-carrying robbers.

Smith has been charged with attempted robbery, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place, and possession of class B drugs (cannabis). Northover was charged with attempted robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.

According to police, Smith appeared in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Sept. 5. Northover is set to appear via video link at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Sept. 23.

Both Ozil and Kolasinac missed Arsenal's opening-weekend trip to Newcastle as a result of the incident.
