Premier League Matchday 6 odds and betting preview

This column experienced its first losing week on Matchday 5 - much like Manchester City - and it still stings.

Thanks to a resilient Watford comeback, not much money was lost, but our record on the season moves to 6-6 (+6.15). Let's push these profits into double digits.

Tottenham (+137) at Leicester City (+187), Draw (+250)

Tottenham seem to be in a bit of turmoil at the moment. How unsettled are Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen? Who starts between Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura? How do they solve their issues in defense? Mauricio Pochettino will be livid with his side for again squandering a 2-0 lead, this time in the Champions League midweek at Olympiacos. Now Spurs are coming off a long trip back from Greece, and you have to think fatigue will play a part.

Leicester were surprisingly toothless in their 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford last weekend, so expect a spirited response from them at the King Power. There's just so much talent and creativity on their side, and the matchup here is a lucrative one against a Spurs defense currently in shambles. This has the feel of a game neither side can afford to lose.

Pick: Draw (+250)

Norwich City (+250) at Burnley (+100), Draw (+280)

Norwich were simply spectacular last weekend in their shock win over Manchester City. They produced what will go down as one of the best team performances of the season, and Carrow Road was absolutely rocking. It was one of those famous nights that will remain with the players throughout their lives, and a signature win for Daniel Farke. It was truly perfect.

Unfortunately, every high has a comedown. It's a really tough ask for the Canaries to maintain that same intensity they had against City for another week. This is also going to be a very different game than their previous match. Burnley are a grizzled side with Premier League know-how, and will do their part to make the game as scrappy as possible. Turf Moor will be electric, and the Clarets will be extremely motivated to bring Norwich back down to earth.

Pick: Burnley (+100)

Brighton (+210) at Newcastle (+140), Draw (+220)

Steve Bruce has done a better job with Newcastle than meets the eye, and positive results should soon follow. He's still looking for his first win at St. James' Park, though. It will be of utmost importance for Newcastle to improve on their home form if they're to stave off relegation, especially against teams close to them in the table, like Brighton.

Newcastle put in a really impressive display against Liverpool last week despite the defeat, and will be eager to build off it. Miguel Almiron needs to offer more for them, but his quality and Joelinton's pace should be enough to trouble the Brighton defense in what will be a tense, cagey affair. St. James' Park will be loud as supporters welcome their club back from Merseyside. The Magpies will feed off that energy to just edge this match.

Pick: Newcastle (+140)

Liverpool (+100) at Chelsea (+250), Draw (+275)

Undoubtedly the match of the weekend, this is hardly an ideal time for Chelsea to welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge. The Blues have really struggled with inconsistencies early in Frank Lampard's tenure, and they're far too open when they're not on the ball - something that will be dearly punished by Liverpool.

Chelsea suffered a difficult loss in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but the game really swung when Mason Mount went off injured. It sounds like he has a less than 50-50 chance of playing in this match. That, combined with the doubt over N'Golo Kante's fitness, is a lot for Chelsea to have to overcome. Tammy Abraham has been firing in goals, but it will be interesting to see how he does in by far his toughest test yet against Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool also lost midweek, but Napoli is a far superior team to Valencia, and the Reds were away from home. You have to wonder how focused they were, with one eye perhaps on this match. Jurgen Klopp has the Champions League under his belt, and it feels as though Liverpool are going to put even more of an emphasis on trying to win the league this season.

The Reds have an early five-point lead atop the table, which should act as a massive source of encouragement. The true sign of a good team is how they respond to defeat, and Liverpool should have too much for a Chelsea side still in something of a transition period.
