Florentino Luis could be close to joining Manchester City, as the Premier League side is contemplating an offer to sign the teenage midfielder from Benfica, according to Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian.

City's reported pursuit of Luis could cost them up to €60 million if they trigger his release clause. However, that figure might rise if Benfica sign the 19-year-old to a new contract that could increase his release clause to over €100 million.

Luis' stock has risen significantly despite only making his senior debut in February and going on to log four appearances for Benfica, with City and other clubs sending scouts to watch him.

City are understood to view Luis, whose contract at Benfica doesn't expire until 2023, as a possible future replacement for soon-to-be 34-year-old Fernandinho.

Manchester City could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain. The French champions already made a reported unsuccessful attempt to sign Luis.

Luis has represented Portugal at every youth level, but he has yet to make his senior debut for the defending European champions.
