It appeared as though talk of Idrissa Gueye leaving Everton for Paris Saint-Germain had been nixed almost as soon as it began. However, things may not be so simple.

The Senegalese midfielder has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to the French champions, according to Sky Sports News.

Earlier on Monday, it was reported that Les Parisiens had filed a £21.5-million offer for the 29-year-old, who has been a vital part of the Toffees' central midfield since joining from Aston Villa in 2016 for around £7.1 million.

Gueye is thought to have asked the Everton hierarchy to allow him to complete his dream move to the French capital, though it'll likely take a significant increase on the official offer for a deal to be done.

The 29-year-old isn't PSG's only midfield target, though. They are reportedly closing on a deal for Zenit St. Petersburg's Leandro Paredes.
