Chelsea would reportedly like Petr Cech to return to the club when he calls time on his playing career at the end of the season, according to BBC Sport.

The Blues are apparently intent on maintaining strong connections with their iconic ex-players, and the 36-year-old goalkeeper - demoted to the bench at Arsenal this season while Bernd Leno establishes himself as Unai Emery's first choice - would join a growing contingent of stars behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.

Legendary striker Didier Drogba currently works with sponsor Yokohama as a global ambassador, speaking with Chelsea fans and the company's customers about his career experiences. Joe Cole recently landed a coaching job in the club's youth academy, and Carlo Cudicini - a former deputy to Cech - currently serves as an assistant to Maurizio Sarri.

Cech won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, Europa League, and seven domestic cups during an 11-year stay with Chelsea. He moved to Arsenal in 2015, adding an FA Cup to his trophy haul at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The former Sparta Prague and Rennes shot-stopper holds the Premier League record for clean sheets with 202 and has a club-record 228 shutouts overall for Chelsea. He is understood to have a close bond with the club despite joining their cross-city rivals after becoming second choice to Thibaut Courtois.

It isn't known what position Cech would hold with the Blues.

"I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch," he said after revealing news of his impending retirement. "Having played 15 years in the Premier League and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.

"I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season."
