Liverpool regained top spot in the Premier League by virtue of a 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday in a match that highlighted the gulf in class between Jurgen Klopp's side and Jose Mourinho's charges.

The Reds needed a pair of deflected efforts from substitute Xherdan Shaqiri to claim all three points, but don't let that fool you: this was a beatdown.

And the numbers prove it.

Here is a collection of stats that showcase just how dominant Liverpool were in brushing United aside at Anfield:

2: The Red Devils had a grand total of two shots on target, and one of those - their goal - only arose because of an uncharacteristic blunder from Alisson, who spilled a cross and allowed Jesse Lingard to prod the loose ball home.

4: Shaqiri completed the same number of passes in the attacking third (four) as Romelu Lukaku. The former was introduced off the bench in the 70th minute; Lukaku played the entire match.

12: Every single outfield player to feature for Liverpool had at least one shot attempt, with Jordan Henderson even getting in on the action after he followed Shaqiri off the bench in the latter stages.

19: Liverpool are now 19 points clear of Sunday's opponents in the league table.

21: The home side created 21 chances against the Red Devils, who could only muster five opportunities.

29: United have now conceded more goals this season, through just 17 matches, than they did all of last season (28).

36: Liverpool attempted 36 shots Sunday, compared to a measly six from Manchester United.

62: Roberto Firmino and Andrew Robertson combined to complete 62 passes in the attacking third. Manchester United, as a team, had only 50.
