Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron, one of the hottest commodities in Major League Soccer, cited the competitive nature of the Premier League as a reason he would prefer a move to England over Spain's La Liga.

Almiron has been the subject of various reports linking him with a move to Europe as he attempts to produce the perfect ending to his second season in Atlanta. The team is on a quest to win the expansion franchise's first MLS Cup.

After Newcastle United's recent emergence as a favorite to sign the 24-year-old, Almiron added fuel to reports Thursday by revealing his preference to play in England.

"Yes, I really like the English style of football for the dynamic play and the competitiveness there is," Almiron told ESPN FC. "I think all of the teams are very good and they're all fighting.

"I think that aspect helps you as a footballer."

Although a switch to Spain has been the ideal route for many South American players, the Paraguayan is confident he can make a smooth transition to the Premier League, which is known for its physical nature. Spain's league has a reputation for being suited to technical footballers.

"Yes. I'm sure that if the time comes whether I will do poorly or well, but I'm really confident in the work I do," Almiron said when asked if he thought his game was a fit for the Premier League.

"If it's the right time to go, I will try to do things in the best way to ensure it goes well."

Almiron scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists to help Atlanta dominate the regular season before the club secured a berth in the MLS Cup final at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta faces the Portland Timbers on Dec. 8.
