Brace yourselves, VAR detractors.

The hotly debated video review system will be introduced to Premier League football next season after top-flight clubs voted in principle for its implementation, the league confirmed Thursday.

That agreement still needs approval from the International Football Association Board, but it's unlikely there will be any impediment to the introduction of the technology, which is already being used in Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 football, as well as a trial in the FA Cup and League Cup in England.

VAR was first tested in an English game in January's FA Cup clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, but back in April, Premier League clubs voted not to adopt it for the 2018-19 season.

It has been trialed on a non-live basis in the Premier League this season, a process which will continue for the rest of the current campaign before its official introduction next summer.

The Premier League's statement explains clubs were updated on the progress of those trials at a meeting Thursday, and the 20 teams agreed to green-light its official use.
