Manchester City are reportedly in discussions with Leroy Sane over a new contract as part of their drive to tie down their biggest stars to long-term deals.

The German winger has two-and-a-half years left on his current terms, and the reigning Premier League champions are seeking to extend that by at least two more, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.

Sane, 22, was rumored to have fallen foul of manager Pep Guardiola's expectations in training when he was surprisingly omitted from the matchday squad for Newcastle United's visit at the start of September. He has since started four matches for City as he tries to wrest minutes from the likes of Bernardo Silva and summer signing Riyad Mahrez.

"We all know the quality Sane has, his importance in the club, but it's the beginning of the season, it's normal that some players have started stronger or are more fit than others," teammate Gabriel Jesus said in September of Sane's exclusion from the squad.

"I just hope when he comes back to the team he's at 100 percent and he's able to help us as he's always done."

Sane, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season, has also struggled to make an impact in the Germany camp during the current domestic campaign. Pressure was loaded onto the pacey flank wanderer when international colleague Toni Kroos questioned his body language merely months after he was left at home during the country's World Cup campaign.

Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Ederson, and Nicolas Otamendi have recently signed long-term contracts at Manchester City, and it's hoped Sane, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan, and Phil Foden will follow suit.
