Report: Salah returns to Liverpool carrying injury from Egypt duty

Mohamed Salah has apparently reported back early from international duty after suffering what Egypt assistant coach Hany Ramzy described as a muscle strain.

The Liverpool attacker scored the Pharaohs' fourth directly from a corner in Friday's 4-1 defeat of eSwatini - the country known as Swaziland until King Mswati III changed its name in April - but was withdrawn with an injury near the end of the Africa Nations Cup qualifier in Cairo. BBC Sport reports Salah is now back on Merseyside for further diagnosis, and will therefore miss another match against eSwatini on Tuesday.

"The primary diagnosis confirms it's just a strain and no muscle rupture is apparent," Ramzy told Bein Sports after the game.

"But the player will need to undergo scans to determine the full extent of the injury and the time needed to heal. It's nothing major, we'll do the best we can to help him recover. We hope he's fit as soon as possible."

Salah broke the scoring record in a 38-game Premier League season last term with 32 tallies, but his start to the latest campaign has been below-par by his high standards. Some Liverpool fans may attribute a downturn in his potency - he's bagged three goals in eight top-flight outings and is yet to score in two Champions League matches - to the shoulder injury he picked up in a collision with Sergio Ramos in May's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

He is now in a race to be fit for Liverpool's trip to Huddersfield Town on Oct. 20.
