Mendy limiting phone use after Guardiola warning: 'I listen to the manager'

Benjamin Mendy is cutting back on his social media activity after Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola urged the French international to focus on the pitch.

Mendy, who is just shy of one million followers on Twitter, took the message to heart, adding that he no longer uses his phone at the team's training facility.

"Every time I am with my phone I am on Instagram or Twitter and (so) now I need to be careful," Mendy said, according to The Guardian's Jamie Jackson. "When I am at the training center, the CFA (City Football Academy), I don’t use my phone but instead I listen to the manager."

"I trust him, he has more experience of the players," he added. "I go without my phone. I don’t change but in the dressing room I don’t use my phone at all. It’s better."

After City's opening-match triumph over Arsenal last week, the Catalan manager said he'd like to "convince" Mendy to cut back his use of social media to "improve a few things" following a season in which the defender spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

Despite his efforts to keep a low profile, Mendy is apparently free to post online after matches:
