Well, that escalated quickly.

Sunday's derby between Brazilian rivals Vitoria and Bahia was abandoned after nine players were sent off for brawling behind one of the nets.

Bahia's Vinicius sparked the melee after celebrating a 50th-minute penalty in front of the opposition's fans. Vitoria's goalkeeper took exception to Vinicius' antics, and in seconds, a full-fledged fight broke out.

Five players were red carded moments after the incident, and another four were dismissed as the match went on. The referee called the match with 11 minutes remaining because Vitoria, down to six men, didn't have enough players to continue.
