Alexis Sanchez suggested that he's following in the footsteps of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry upon the completion of his transfer to Manchester United on Monday.

After days of speculation over the Chilean's impending move to Manchester, Sanchez officially joined United in a swap deal that involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan signing on with Arsenal.

The announcement was followed by Sanchez's farewell message to supporters, which included a comparison of himself and his situation to Henry, who won multiple league titles before leaving Arsenal in 2006 as the club's all-time leading scorer.

"There are people (former club players) who have spoken with no knowledge of what happens inside the club and cause damage," Sanchez said. "I must say I always gave 100 percent, until the last day, when I asked to the Mister to be in the team, because I wanted to be a contribution.

"I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn."

It's believed Sanchez is referring to comments made by former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, who described the 29-year-old as the "biggest mercenary in football" and that he would have joined league-leader Manchester City, instead, if money didn't fuel his departure from north London.

Sanchez ends his Arsenal career with 60 Premier League goals and two FA Cup trophies.
