Marcus Edwards, compared to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino, is heading to the Championship.

On Monday, Tottenham Hotspur announced that Edwards joined Norwich City on loan for the remainder of the 2017-18 season. According to the Guardian's David Hytner, Pochettino accepted that the English attacking midfielder was in need of regular football at the senior level, and a host of clubs showed interest in the teenager, with the Canaries selected as the preferred option.

Pochettino reportedly saw Norwich as the ideal short-term solution and sees a pathway for Edwards at Tottenham. The footballer was part of England's squad at the European Under-19 Championship, where the Three Lions beat Portugal in the final.

In 2016, Pochettino said that Edwards reminded him of Messi, declaring: "His qualities ... it's only looks - his body and the way that he plays - remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi."

Meanwhile, Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to Tottenham after spending the first half of the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, with whom he made 17 Championship appearances.
