The latest edition of Der Klassiker was one to remember, as Borussia Dortmund expanded their lead atop the Bundesliga table after emerging victorious in a five-goal thriller against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

After Bayern forward Robert Lewandowski and Dortmund star Marco Reus traded braces, Paco Alcacer scored his Bundesliga-leading eighth goal in the second half to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory for the hosts.

The win gives Dortmund, who came from behind twice in the match, a seven-point advantage over the defending Bundesliga champions through 11 matches. Borussia Monchengladbach sit four points back of Dortmund in second place.

Victory, however, was anything but guaranteed as the match entered injury time, as Bayern's desperate attempt for an equalizer was almost rewarded with just seconds remaining. Lewandowski appeared to score an incredible backheel goal, but celebrations were short-lived when he was called offside.

The victory marks Dortmund's first triumph over Bayern Munich since beating the Bavarians 1-0 on Nov. 19, 2016. Bayern thumped BVB 6-0 in their last meeting.

Dortmund enter the international break undefeated in the Bundesliga, with their next test coming against Mainz on Nov. 24. Meanwhile, Bayern will look to rebound from the disappointing result when they host Fortuna Dusseldorf on the same day.
