Peru has earned a date with the defending Copa America champion.

A 5-4 win on penalties Saturday saw the Peruvians book their place in the semifinals of the competition, when they'll meet a Chile side that also needed a shootout victory in the last eight to advance.

Uruguay had three goals disallowed for being offside during Saturday's contest, and the team couldn't recover from Luis Suarez's missed spot-kick during the shootout.

The Barcelona star stepped up for his squad's first attempt, but he smashed it into the stomach of a diving Pedro Gallese. It was the first penalty the 32-year-old has missed for his club or country since 2016.

The other nine shooters converted from 12 yards out, with winger Edison Flores calmly slotting the decisive strike home for Peru.

The winner of Wednesday's encounter in Porto Alegre will meet either host nation Brazil or Argentina in the tournament final on July 7.
