Watch: Gabriel Mercado delivers ugly ankle stamp on Alexis Sanchez

If the first few minutes of the Copa America Centenario final between Argentina and Chile are any indication, we're in for one heck of a battle.

There were several strong tackles, knocks, and fouls in the opening 10 minutes of the match, but none were more egregious than Gabriel Mercado's stamp on Alexis Sanchez's ankle.

While Sanchez survived the foul and carried on, the slow-motion video paints a pretty uncomfortable picture: Mercado put his studs into Sanchez's left foot, bringing him down as he clutched his ankle in pain.

Mercado escaped without a yellow card for the poorly timed challenge.
