Zenit St Petersburg blows by Valencia to secure top spot in Group H
Zenit St Petersburg continued its dominance in the Champions League on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Valencia to remain perfect and secure first place in Group H.
The hosts opened the scoring early on in the first half when Oleg Shatov collected the ball after a scramble at the top of the Valencia box. The Russian midfielder found space behind Valencia defenders and continued his run toward goal before chipping the ball over Jaume Costa for the opener.
Artem Dzyuba, who helped set up the first goal, put the tie out of reach with an easy finish following a lethal passing display.
The victory inflated Zenit's lead to nine points with one match left as the club turns its attention towards the final group stage match before focusing on the Round of 16.
