Report: Pele doing 'fine' after being taken to special care unit
Pele is in good condition after being taken to a special care unit for a urinary infection.
In conversation with The Associated Press, the three-time World Cup champion's personal aide, Jose Fornos Rodrigues, downplayed concerns over Pele's health, claiming he was "fine" and that he was simply moved to a different part of the hospital with the aim of protecting his privacy.
"He is fine," Rodrigues said. "The problem was that he was receiving too many visitors and that wasn't helping, so they transferred him to a calmer area to continue receiving the proper treatment. He should be out of the hospital in a few days."
The 74-year-old Brazilian football icon is being treated with antibiotics at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, where he underwent surgery less than 15 days ago to remove kidney stones before being discharged.
It should be noted that the hospital's press office stated that Pele is not in an intensive care unit, as other reports have suggested.
