Maradona's lawyer calls for investigation into arrival time of ambulance

The lawyer for Diego Maradona, who died Wednesday from a heart attack, has called for an investigation into the time it took for an ambulance to arrive at the Argentine football icon's residence just outside of Buenos Aires.

Six ambulances showed up at Maradona's home near the Argentine capital, but his agent, Matias Morla, described the response from emergency services as "criminal idiocy" after it allegedly took over half an hour for an ambulance to arrive.

"This fact cannot be overlooked and I'm going to ask for an investigation to look into it until the end," Morla said, according to Adriana Garcia of ESPN FC.

"As Diego would say, you are my soldier, act with pity."

The San Isidro district attorney's report indicated an emergency vehicle was slow to arrive at the residence and attempts to revive the 60-year-old were unsuccessful.

Maradona had been staying at the residence after undergoing brain surgery two weeks ago.
