Real Madrid and Roma both confirmed their passages beyond the Champions League group stage on Tuesday courtesy of CSKA Moscow's 2-1 home defeat to Viktoria Plzen.

Nikola Vlasic put CSKA ahead from the penalty spot, but Plzen's Roman Prochazka made amends after missing his own spot kick to put his side level on 56 minutes. Lukas Hejda notched the late winner for the Czech outfit when he got his head on a cross from Patrik Hrosovsky.

The Russian giants recorded a win over Real Madrid in early October, and it's still possible for them to parachute into the Europa League with a third-placed finish in Group G.

Real Madrid and Roma would have reached the last 16 of the tournament even if CSKA drew at the Luzhniki Stadium. The two outfits met later on Tuesday as the Champions League holders won 2-0 in the Italian capital with goals from Gareth Bale and Lucas Vazquez.
