Bayern Munich will be without midfielder Thiago Alcantara for several weeks, as the club announced Wednesday that the Spain international suffered multiple injuries to his right ankle.

Thiago was injured late in Bayern's 2-1 DFB Pokal win over Rodinghausen on Tuesday. Scans subsequently revealed a torn lateral collateral ligament and articular capsule.

It's a big blow for the German champions, as Thiago's been in good form during a somewhat rocky spell for the Bavarian club. The former Barcelona man has played in 14 of 15 games so far this season in all competitions.

The injury is also poorly timed, as Thiago will now miss Bayern's heavyweight clash with free-scoring league leaders Borussia Dortmund on Nov. 10.

Before traveling to the Westfalenstadion, Bayern will host mid-table Freiburg at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, and then welcome AEK Athens in the Champions League next Wednesday.
