Josep Bartomeu says he and the rest of the Barcelona boardroom are content with the current squad, but would be open to scouring the January transfer market if "a finishing touch" is required to compete on all fronts.

Pre-season diagnoses of a crisis at Barcelona have been quelled by a strong first-placed standing in La Liga, and the 10-point haul from the club's first four matches in Champions League Group D. However, if the Copa del Rey hunt continues into the new year, Ernesto Valverde's ranks may be stretched a bit thin.

"There are people more qualified than me, like (general manager) Pep Segura and (CEO) Oscar Grau," Bartomeu told AS when quizzed on potential January business, as translated by ESPN FC's Samuel Marsden.

"We're satisfied with the squad but if there is an opportunity to improve in January, Barca always have to try. The ambition is there. We want to win everything: La Liga, the Copa del Rey ... to win the Champions League, maybe (the squad) needs a finishing touch."

Philippe Coutinho was subject of a protracted transfer saga in the summer, and the Liverpool forward remains the most prominent name linked to a mid-season switch to the Camp Nou. Other touted signings include Paris Saint-Germain's Angel Di Maria and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann.

Barcelona can confirm entry into the Champions League knockout phase for a 17th consecutive season with an away draw at Juventus on Wednesday, regardless of the result between Sporting CP and Olympiacos in Lisbon.
