By the numbers: A statistical look at the Champions League final

Ahead of the big contest between Juventus and Real Madrid, we take a look at some of the numbers shaping the narrative.

2 - Real Madrid looks to become 1st club to successfully defend its Champions League crown

AC Milan - which accomplished the feat in 1989 and 1990, prior to the tournament's rebranding as the Champions League - is the last side to win Europe's top prize in two straight seasons. Victory would thus make Zinedine Zidane the first manager, and Sergio Ramos the first captain, to hoist the trophy in consecutive years in the Champions League era.

3 - Goals conceded by Juventus this season

No team has a better defensive record in the competition this season. Real Madrid, for its part, has conceded 17 times heading into Saturday's clash.

4 - Number of times a Spanish and Italian club have met in the Champions League final

That makes it the most frequent matchup; Spanish clubs have won two of the previous three encounters, including Real's 1998 triumph over Juve.

6 - Juventus losses in European Cup/Champions League finals

Juventus, a loser in its previous four Champions League finals (1997, 1998, 2003, 2015), holds the unwanted record for most defeats in the showpiece match.

15 - Real Madrid appearances in a European Cup/Champions League final

Of their record 14 appearances thus far, Los Blancos have come away winners a remarkable 11 times, which is easily the top mark. AC Milan sits second with seven victories.

19 - Number of times these behemoths have met in European competition

32 - Goals scored by Real Madrid this season

Los Blancos sit atop the tournament scoring chart, with Cristiano Ronaldo's 10 tallies leading the way.

39 - Gianluigi Buffon's age

The iconic shot-stopper, aged 39 years and 126 days, would become the oldest player to ever win the Champions League if he can get his hands on the coveted trophy for the first time in his career.

100 percent - Real Madrid's never lost a Champions League final in the modern era

Los Blancos are the only team that, while having appeared in the match more than once, boasts a perfect record in Champions League finals.

499 - One more goal and Madrid will become the 1st team in Champions League history to reach 500 in the tournament

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are the only other clubs to break the 400-goal barrier.
