The Edmonton Elks agreed to trade the No. 1 overall pick in Tuesday's CFL draft to the Montreal Alouettes, the league announced.

The Alouettes will send the No. 4 pick and the rights to offensive lineman Carter O'Donnell, who is under contract with the Indianapolis Colts, to Edmonton.

Former Syracuse linebacker Tyrell Richards is the favorite to be the first player off the board.

The versatile Richards racked up 54 total tackles (9.5 for a loss) and six sacks in 31 career games at Syracuse from 2018-20. He didn't play last season after being unable to transfer.

"I'm just letting whatever happens, happen," Richards said, according to Ryan Rumbolt of insauga.com. "If I do go first it will be a blessing … I just want to be able to go out there and play football again."

Edmonton also owns picks eight and 28 after completing a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Tuesday.
