The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are set to promote assistant head coach Orlondo Steinauer to the top role Monday, according to TSN's Dave Naylor.

Current head coach June Jones - who took over from Kent Austin during last season after joining the team as an assistant - will become the associate head coach and offensive coordinator, Naylor adds.

The Ticats rebounded from a 6-12 campaign in 2017 to make this year's East Final, only to lose 46-27 to the Ottawa Redblacks. They finished the regular season in second place in the division at 8-10.

Steinauer was previously the defensive coordinator for the Ticats from 2013 to 2016. He left to fill the same role at Fresno State in 2017 but returned to Hamilton where he played from 1997 to 2000, winning one Grey Cup and making an All-Star team.

He was expected to be a candidate for head coaching positions with the Toronto Argonauts and the BC Lions.
