The Toronto Argonauts appear to have taken a step toward finding Ricky Ray's successor, as sources told Justin Dunk of 3 Down Nation that the club has agreed to a two-year deal with quarterback James Franklin.

The Argonauts acquired Franklin from the Edmonton Eskimos by trade in December, giving them an exclusive negotiating window. The 26-year-old completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,449 yards and 12 touchdowns in a backup role over three years with the Eskimos.

The 38-year-old Ray has yet to decide whether to retire or play the 2018 season, but given his injury history, it seems wise to add Franklin for depth purposes.

The Argos have firsthand knowledge of what Franklin can do after he torched the team for 335 yards and four touchdowns in a Eskimos win at BMO Field in 2016.
