The Montreal Alouettes appointed Mike Sherman as their new head coach Wednesday.

Sherman coached the Green Bay Packers from 2000-05 and Texas A&M from 2008-11. He also acted as Green Bay's general manager from 2001-04.

"We went through a thorough selection process, but from the beginning, we knew that Mike was the man for the job. We liked his vision of the team and his expectations," Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed said in a statement, via Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette. "He has experience as a head coach at the professional level and he will know how to motivate his players and push them to perform to their full potential."

The 63-year-old Sherman led the Packers to three straight division titles from 2002-04 and posted five consecutive winning seasons.

He now joins an Alouettes outfit that finished 3-15 in 2017 and lost 11 straight games to close out the season.
