Ray eclipses 60K career yards as Argos edge Bombers

The Toronto Argonauts needed Ricky Ray at his best to survive a Saturday evening shootout against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a contest the Boatmen won 29-28.

Ray broke 400 yards passing for the second time this season, torching the Bombers for 423 yards while also becoming the fourth quarterback in CFL history to pass for over 60,000 career yards.

The 37-year-old joins Henry Burris, Damon Allen, and Anthony Calvillo as the only passers to eclipse the mark.

Both teams traded scores all game with neither holding a two-score lead for more than five minutes. Blue Bombers kicker Justin Medlock missed a potential game-winning field goal from 39 yards out with time expiring that required Argos kicker Lirim Hajrullahu to punt the ball out of the end zone to avoid a tie.

Running back James Wilder Jr. also got the job done for Toronto, rushing for 112 yards with two scores while contributing 85 yards receiving and stopping a potential pick-6 at the one-yard line.

The Argonauts move to 8-9 with the victory and take over first place in the East Division, while Winnipeg still sits comfortably with the second seed in the West after falling to 11-5.
