Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Will Hill has been suspended for one game after grabbing an official's jersey in last week's loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Hill became involved in a heated conversation with the official during the third quarter of the contest, and was ejected after grabbing his jersey.

Hill was also fined an undisclosed amount for punching a Roughriders player during the same altercation.

"It is a fundamental principle in all of sport: you cannot and must not lay your hands on an official," new CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie said in a statement. "Furthermore, by punching an opponent, this player has not only displayed the opposite of sportsmanship, he has undermined the commitment to player health and safety that must be shared by the league and its players alike."

Hill will miss the club's home opener on Saturday against the BC Lions.
