Stampeders beat Blue Bombers in ugly Friday nighter

It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but the Calgary Stampeders will take it.

In a game that featured four interceptions, the Stamps managed to raise their level in the second half and pull away from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night, leaving Investors Group Field with a 29-10 victory.

The result moved Calgary to 2-0-1 on the season, while Winnipeg dropped to 1-1.

The normally sure-handed Bo Levi Mitchell wasn't his spectacular self versus the Bombers, throwing a pair of interceptions in the first half before finding a better rhythm in the final 30 minutes. He finished the contest with 332 yards along with a touchdown.

With Mitchell off his game, Kamar Jorden played the role of hero for Calgary. The fourth-year receiver caught and rushed for a touchdown apiece, and was one of two men suited up in white and red to reach the end zone - linebacker Maleki Harris was the other, courtesy of a pick-6 from Matt Nichols.

As unflattering an offensive performance as it was for Calgary for most of the night, it was even uglier for the home side. Winnipeg was shut out in three of the four quarters, scoring all 10 of its points in the second frame, while Nichols threw two interceptions of his own - though he did have one touchdown.

Running back Andrew Harris was unable to pick up much slack in the absence of a healthy passing game, as he was limited to 32 yards on 10 carries.

Both teams will return to action in Week 4, as Calgary visits the Montreal Alouettes while Winnipeg hosts the Toronto Argonauts.
