Alouettes release quarterback Rakeem Cato
The Montreal Alouettes have lessened the chance for any quarterback controversy in 2017, as the team announced Monday that it has parted ways with quarterback Rakeem Cato.
Cato spent the last two seasons with the Alouettes, appearing in 22 games over that span, passing for a combined 3,570 yards to go along with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Last season saw Cato involved in numerous incidents involving former teammates Duron Carter and Kenny Stafford, one of which led Cato to be escorted from the practice facility.

Following the Alouettes' acquisition of quarterback Darian Durant, the most Cato could have realistically hoped for was a backup role to start the season.
