Report: Bastian Schweinsteiger agrees to 3-year deal with Manchester United, transfer imminent
Bastian Schweinsteiger is on the verge of swapping his Bayern Munich red in favour of being a Red Devil.
German publication Bild reports that the midfielder, 30, has agreed to a three-year deal with Manchester United, adding that a €20-million move from Bayern is imminent.
There have been rumblings for quite some time that the German captain, who worked – and developed a strong relationship – with Louis van Gaal when the Dutchman was at the Bavarian club, was atop United's wish list.
This, however, signals the most concrete suggestions that Schweinsteiger could leave the only club he's ever known, one he's called home for 13 years.
Bild notes that Schweinsteiger, who has one year remaining on his contract at Bayern, will make £140,000-a-week with United.
Though some may be taken aback by the financial details of the reported deal considering that Schweinsteiger will be 31 in August – and started only 21 matches last season due to injuries – this signals a calculated gamble by a financially stable club who can afford to take a chance in an effort to continue on the march back towards the top of the Premier League table.
The German's arrival would add to a central midfield group that already boasts the likes of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and, when needed, Daley Blind.
