Out with Shinji Okazaki; in with Maximilian Beister.
One day after FSV Mainz 05 announced the departure of their top scorer from last season, the club completed the signing of Beister on a three-year deal.
Beister, 24, was limited to only five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga at Hamburger SV last season and will obviously be looking to see more playing time at Coface Arena.
"We have not bought him as a like-for-like replacement for Shinji Okazaki," Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel said. "Maximilian Beister has played at the highest level of German football for several years. We've known him and his qualities for a while now."
